The only solution is a moral and just society. We no longer have that. We are screwed and it wont stop until people turn back right, or there is a reckoning.
A just society would not allow a thief injured during the commission of theft to be awarded millions for being injured by someone trying to prevent that theft. A just society would not allow laws to exist or courts that rule in favor of this lunacy.
Punishment for theft would be much greater in a moral society. This would make them fear the consequences more and would motivate the police more. In general cops know its mostly pointless to catch these people. Nothing happens. Its work with no reward. They are let go with little to no punishment and back out there doing it again. A just society does not allow that.
Right now, when someone steals the store is at more risk that the offender. That is immoral and unjust
If these changes were made the stores would not fear stopping thieves. Because the consequences are put back where they belong, on the offender. Thievery would go down. And prices with it.
Or society is dying. The worst part is the moral people will suffer MORE than the bad. That is happening now. Hard working moral people a having to pay for the actions of an ever growing population of takers. And we are powerless to stop it because we are the minority.

People act this way know because of the weak *** DA’s and Judges these days. They are scared to do a job because they will be singled out and threatened or voted out of office if they don’t agree with the criminal. They have used COVID as a crutch to let criminals run free and not receive jail time, so you get these type of lowlifes that know they won’t be touched and think they can do as they please.

If she was indeed shoplifting....the employee was a victim of Robbery....not assault. Of course....what is right isn't treated as right anymore. Shame on Academy.

Years ago I watched at least 4 store employees follow a shoplifter at Fry’s Electronics in North Houston. As soon as he exited the front door he was tackled and escorted back inside. I hope that his feet were held to the fire.
This shoplifter in Lafayette who assaulted the veteran should’ve been hung up by her feet at the entrance and beaten. Until these companies stop their pansie-@$$ed no intervention policies, this behavior will only escalate. I’d rather ever person who pulls this kind of BS were shot dead on the spot. I doubt she was just trying to feed her starving kids. The world would be better off with her hung from the store entrance as an example of what happens to thieves.
Maybe the company board members and HR department shoulder horsewhipped as an example of how not to treat its employees.Last edited by Wampuscat; 01-23-2022, 09:45 AM.

To me the bigger issue in all this is the judicial system period
So Academy ties their hands to a policy to avoid a lawsuit on a case where the thief should have no legal stance
You mean I can steal & assault an employee to protect the things I stole & if I’m harmed I can sue & win millions plus the goods I stole?
Screwed up legal system

My Brother works for CVS pharmacies and had an assistant manager who was an army veteran. Stopped a guy leaving the store with alcohol and the guy threatened him with a bottle of wine. Yhis army vet took the bottle of wine away and beat the suspect over the head with it. The army veteran was fired and CVS was sued by the individual who was stealing. Yes, it’s a sad world we live in. Someone’s gonna need to get shot in the face before this stops. Yes I said that out loud. I’m sorry.
I think the stores need to hire good security, armed, off duty officers, to handle those situations. That would put an end to a lot of that crap. In the long run, it would be a lot cheaper to hire off duty officers, compared to how much merchandise just walks out the door daily, currently. That cost of lost merchandise is passed on to us, paying consumers. Which is pure BS. The stores choose to pass on the expense of their losses to blatant theft, to their paying customers. Because they are to CS to stop the thefts.
I was in a Home Depot about a year ago, was dealing with a clerk who was highly paranoid of the virus. She was wearing a mask, then would back up, when I tried to pick up something off of the cart, would not touch anything I touched. I was getting a bit irritated with her paranoia. Then some illegal walked past me pushing a cart full of Milwaukee tools, ratchet straps and some other stuff. The woman asked to see his receipt, he looked at her, then started acting like he was digging through his pockets for the receipt. She started looking through the basket, he tried to push it around her. She grabbed the cart with both hands, got a death grip on the basket. At that time I finally realized what was going on. Since she was a woman and very small. I started to get involved, at that time the guy took off, for the door without the cart. Afterwards, another employee walked up and congratulated her on standing up to the guy. Multiple people started clapping and cheering her. Afterwards, multiple employees were standing around and started talking about how they just walk out with baskets full of merchandise all day long and Home Depot tells them to let them walk, to do nothing.
Then again recently, I was in the same Home Depot, and multiple employees all turned and watched a guy, another illegal, just walk out the door with a basket of merchandise. They were all POed and started talking about it. Again, the employees said that Home Depot, tells them not to do anything other than watch them walk out the door. They told me, that people walk out of the store all day long, every day, with carts full of merchandise.
That's when I was then told about the incident in Houston, where two or three people were shot, one being the employee, then one or two officers. Because an employee tried to stop a guy from stealing.
Letting them steal is very wrong, keeping their employees safe, is a good thing. But they should not just let people walk with merchandise. It would definitely be cheaper in the long run to hire off duty officers to handle those situations.
I am so tired off all of the BS that is allowed to go on these days, with zero punishment. Our country can't last much longer going like this.Last edited by RifleBowPistol; 01-23-2022, 10:31 AM.
