    Reloading- chasing speed?

Reloading for my 6.5CM, I’ve found a decent load, but it’s at the bottom of the load data.
    2440FPS

    Factory ammo shoots 2617FPS

Should I be happy with an accurate load at low FPS or should I chase a middle range or high range FPS group?

Personally I would chase a higher speed. What app are you using?

Are you intending on taking longer shots? If you're not i don't see the point in wringing out all the speed you possibly can. An accurate bullet will always be better than one thats screaming and inconsistent.

Faster bullets just let you know that you have missed quicker.

Ballistic-X for grouping and Caldwell Chronograph G2 for the Chrono.

I would love to take it to 600-800 yards. Not necessarily on animals.

I would do a ladder test and find the next node.

I'm sure you'll work up a great load for those distances, just gonna take some time. For 200 yds or less I'd hang onto your current recipe.

I personally shoot for a load that fills the case completely. It will result in more consistent burn of the powder. I look for loads that fill the case completely, then then look for the powders that produce the lowest pressures, with a full case. If your case is a little ays from being full, not much chance it's going to be one of the more accurate loads for that caliber and bullet combo. A full case is important, for accuracy. A lot of target loads, they at least used to put fillers in the case, to fill the case and keep the pressures down. Velocity can help accuracy, more so at longer ranges, by reducing the bullet's time in flight. Speed is not as important at shorter ranges.

This. You’ve found the low node. There will be another at or above max.

                            2440fps is 6.5 Grendel velocities.
