Those motor units are there for a reason. They have to be on the highway and if you notice they are lines up in the shade. Those guys can find shade with a line telephone pole on the interstate. Those bike are hot

I found the last comment to be extremely funny. I’m guessing you’re a LEO. If so it’s even funnier and thank you for your service.

Any easy deduction my dear Ranger

The OPs description of how many units on scene is a dead give away. The only other option could have been a constable precinct but he said 59 and not the beltway. So that only leaves HPD cause we know the county aint got enough man power to sit that many units on the freeway. No matter how many wrecked cars and people are out there. And lets face it, we wouldn't need that many

All jokes and cheap shots aside, I was genuinely curious when I asked the question. Why wasn't anyone working the intersections in order to speed up the flow of traffic?

They were preserving evidence until the "Texas Hammer" could make an appearance.

while I don't wish ill will on anyone, I would get a chuckle out of the headline

There was a fatal accident that had happened.

While inconvenient, I would rather a little delay in life than what the poor sole had experienced that was the reason for the back up (no life).

Houston is very lucky compared to most other Texas cities. These instances where a life is taken is serious. The investigation can take hours and must be well documented. We must respect what the circumstances are and maybe even a small prayer for all those involved in the fatality. It's not as orchestrated as going to a sporting event where they are at liberty to control the intersection. And these days with the amount of stupid drivers it's not safe any longer to stand in an intersection and try and control them.
DFW for one is much worse, these cities will do even the fender bender investigation right there on scene and complete their report while waiting for a wrecker to be dispatched. I realize they look like buzzards but they are ready to go soon as HPD, HCSO or any other municipality calls on them to get the road clear.

TradAg- really don’t work intersections with working lights much anymore. Folks are too impatient when they see a light turn green it is their turn to go. Most dangerous work cops can do are escorts and directing traffic. I’ve been hit 3 times defecting traffic. Since I have promoted a few times I have never asked one of mine to direct traffic when the lights are working. It’s safer

Don’t have time to work an intersection with working signals when it takes every officer on the force to tell the 100’s of drivers “NO!” who are all asking “Can I go this way?” as you stand behind barricades, cones, patrol cars and a line of officers all blocking the road. Not to mention the dangers of working an intersection with working signals.
