We kill a lot of pigs and smoke them whole--butterfly and put on the pit. All shot in the head, all DRT and all good/excellent.
You are shooting too small of pigs

Lol, my family loves wild pig. We clean several each year. To read on here you'll die of some sort of disease before you get thru cleaning them.

I've killed 8 so far and pig hunting hasn't even started for me.. I like wild pork better than deer. Wife cooked Front shoulder in the crock pot yesterday.. I have a hind quarter ready to smoke for pulled pork tacos this weekend. I won't fool with big nasty boars but I've eaten several 150 lbs and less.. I usually pan fry a piece of backstrap at camp.. you will know immediately if it's gonna be gamey by the smell.

That looks like a good one for the pit.

Way to killvest that hog. Head shots are definitely the way to do it.

I have smoked up to 5 at a time—boars and sows—all over 150 pounds (live weight) and all good/great. Only ones I won’t take time to mess with are the old boars that seem old man butt/weak hams. Can generally tell by quick glance/feel if they are worth screwing with. Have cleaned some bruiser boars that were great! As long as they have a lot of fat, most of which is trimmed off, they are good to go.

For example, most would drag this “nasty old boar” off and I recall he was absolutely awesome.

Killed this one last weekend, couldn’t believe he didn’t stink at all. Cleaned him and meat smelled fine, grilled the tenders and they were very good. I will at least smell check the boars from here on out instead of just tossing them. Rest of him is headed for the smoker.

                              I've eaten a bunch of'em.
But, I've never had the opportunity to kill one..
