Default Soon to be no more Bill in San Jose....

....... it will be Bill in Bozeman or Montana Bill or something more creative- Iím open to ideas.

After being on TBH as Bill in San Jose since 2006 (and also earlier before the infamous server crash) and living here since 1992, we sold the house and leave on Monday for Bozeman. Weíll rent initially while finding land and our son will build Mom and Dadís retirement home. I think it will be somewhere in Madison County.

Maybe Iíll consult/ contract. Maybe Iíll work. I have a application submitted to teach in the college of business and entrepreneurship at Montana State. Maybe Iíll teach. Maybe Iíll build a home, hunt and fly fish. Thereís a local clubís 3d shoot April 7- time to meet other bowhunters. People there are friendly- as long as theyíre sure Iím leaving the fruits and nuts behind here!

Living in and leaving Cali makes me think ďWhat a long, strange trip itís beenĒ to quote San Franciscan Jerry Garcia from the Grateful Dead. While weíre glad to be leaving, itís also been a good run- especially and surprising the hunting opportunities. Iíve been blessed with local, private land access for deer, pigs and turkeys and hunted a dozen state and federal waterfowl refuges in the pacific flyway.

I set up 2 last hunts the week before last. Monday am my friend cancelled for work and I went solo with my bow and a pocket knife. Everything else was moved to storage.

I saw a big boar at 40 yards in the oaks, said Iíd pass- then said if he came to 30 I had to shoot. He did. At full draw the wind shifted and he got out of there.

Tuesday another friend came, he brought his 30-06 and crushed the boar at 30 yards- we estimate was 250-275#. It rolled down the mountain (into poison oak- of course) and we had to quarter it up and pack out.

The shooter

And me with a head-shot. And my pocket knife.

5 more months to get in shape for the Montana elk season!

I look forward to your adventures in the big sky country.

I could be persuaded to make a road trip if you need some help hunting elk on that public ground.

Im truely jealeous. My wife and I love Bozeman. However, while its not California, its still pretty liberal for Montana.

Bozeman (Gallatin County) is a college town- hence liberal. Last fall I was networking with a fellow I met at a trade show in Cali, and met the ex-mayor in a coffee shop. Very cordial, welcomed me to Montana. He asked where we were considering building I told him a couple areas, and he got serious and said ďYou know- thatís Madison County. Things change when you cross the county lineĒ.

Pickups, conservatives, guns. Yup.

Well, this may sound a little against the grain but I am a little glad to see Bill from San Jose leaving.

Iíve never been to California. One of the few reasons I would go is to retrieve you and yours in the event of the big earthquake, fire etc.

Here are a few reasons Iím not excited:

No scouting for blacktail deer threads in the Summer with photos
No refuge duck hunts with photos
No blacktail hunts with photos
No hog hunts with photos
No hunts with photos of poison ivy and/or briars or the bottom of a steep hill
No Pat Tillman updates with photos
No wildfire or failed dam updates
No 49ers updates. Iím not a NFL fan but until this week it looked they would draft Quinnen Williams

The main reason(s) to look forward to it are all the good threads to come! You could write a good thread about hunting in a mud puddle.
Have a safe move but get on up there and let us know whatís going on.

At least youre "The Right Minded" Californian moving to Montana! Too many dammed leftist Californians have been moving to Montana and trying to change policy to match the Schitehole policies that fubared California to begin with.

First thing you need to do is get some Jeremiah Johnson Mountain Man Scotch Ale from just up the road from you in Great Falls!

Great suggestions- first let me get there safely with my lovely wife.

Yes- he left his house early am, could not find his Havalon so grabbed one of the kitchen knifes. It snapped in half- he wanted it in the picture.

25 years ago you just shot hogs in CA. Then they started charging $8.90 for a book of 5 pig tags. Fast forward, DFG realized hogs were an untapped revenue source so they raised the tag to $24. Each. Plus itís a game animal so the same 1/2 hour before sunrise like a deer.

Frank Zappa? Iíve been trying to find zircon- encrusted tweezers since Penn State in Ď73.
