The word " hero " is often misused. Not in this case. These men knew with certainty that they could not survive. They were indeed heroes . Very good thread ! Thanks.

                    Love me some TX History!

So much that me and my buddy I named our hunting pastures:

                    Crockett, Seguin, Travis, and Bowie

Thanks Big Brass. It is always easy for me to remember those great men. My cousin was born March 6 (94 years after the fall of the Alamo) and I was born on the 5th. Makes it easy to remember.

This is a great thread, but its missing a part of the reason they were there. In December 1835, Ben Milam led 300 men to San Antonio where the Mexican Army lost over 400 soldiers to musket balls or desertion. The Texans only lost 20-30 men. Ben was killed from a shot to the head in the opening volley, but his rallying cry, "Who will go with old Ben Milam into San Antonio?" is remembered. When the defeated Mexican Army under the command of Santa Anna's nephew was freed to return home, they were met with contempt. Santa Anna swore to route out the Texans and offer no quarter, where his army had been given it.
