Gut says 6s for a more dense pattern, or maybe 6 then a 5 then a 4, but I doubt we get two shots...

Out of those, I'd go with the 6's

You have any of those in 7 1/2? You get about 100 more pellets if so and they are deadly at 15 yards

I'd go with the 6's as well. I have a box of Remmy Nitro Magnum in 3" #6 with 1 1/4oz if you want to try a couple of different loads to pattern.

1oz heavy dove in 7 1/2 gives you 350 pellets while #6 has 225

But they will all do just fine at 15-20 yards

We’re gonna “live pattern”.

Got room too, if you got a kiddo wants to kill one.

Should be at the gate by 6

Birds are still flocked up and I’m banking on them holding pattern. If so, I should be in the game by 8:00

I’ll update as I can.

No expert but we grew up on 4s and 6s with my grandparents’ Smart leading the way. 12-13 years ago I had a 25 count box of 3” copper plated pheasant loads #4s leftover from my pheasant hunts in SD. Figured I had 25 for the price of 10 “turkey loads in a fancy box” right there. Patterned the pheasant loads against a 10 round box of the same and some Hevi 6s and was satisfied with the results . They have been devastating to turkey heads with a Primos Jellyhead over the years so I stuck with them. Seems lead 4s are old school these days but I gave the Hevi 6s and the remainder of the 10 count #4s away to a buddy’s kid and they killed just fine with them as well . Would be finished with that box of 25 had I not killed several with my bow and not fallen back in love with killing them with my bow over the last 3-4 years. I may never finish that box now. .

Anyway, in my not so expert opinion, you can’t go wrong with either of those you posted really with a full choke or tighter in the grand scheme of things.... especially at the distances you posted. Just tell Snoop to pull the trigger to the plug if it keeps moving!

Doesn’t Snoop have a crossbow too? That might be a good choice for bird #2.

Good luck to y’all!!

I wish I could change chokes in that 1100, but it’s not an option right now. I could put a full in my quail gun, but it’s feather light and recoil operated, it’ll pound you with heavy dove loads. Over/under is an option, or we could go steal grandpas Berretta.

Birds aren’t talkin as much as yesterday.

The loner is in the same spot but only gobbled one time. I haven’t heard the jakes yet so maybe they didn’t roost close by

I’m about 150 yards from the roost so maybe he’ll commit this mornin

Stay after them. So they are still flocked up. When do they break up good down there? I figured with earlier spring green up that it would be ahead of schedule

I thought the exact same thing but I’d bet they’re 2-3 weeks behind last year

Thanks!

I have hunted everyday since Saturday. Like most people are saying seems like majority of birds are flocked up. Have had an opportunity at a lot of Jakes but Toms haven’t been committing.

Yesterday decided to switch it up and do a midday hunt. Got to gate and there was this Tom and Jake In neighbors field to my left. They were working toward my field. Sprinted down fence line and through creek road to my field. Got decoys out. After 2 sets of me calling and them firing back they came running at decoys. Thought i got shot on video but they were just out of frame. Shook me up pretty good. First archery bird down without a blind!

I just got PoPo setup but I’ll be watchin from the camp house with little man

He’s setup closer to the river bottom with hopes of getting a chance at the loner bird. We put out 2 hens as this tom has been getting his butt whipped by the other toms and jakes.
