Crappy weather forecasted for the south zone opener. No doubt I'll be out there, but not optimistic about my chances until Monday.

Didn’t even bother going out this morning. Too cold, wet, windy, and don’t care to hunt birds from a popup. May give it a go in another hour or so, but not optimistic for hearing a gobbling bird given the conditions. Tomorrow and Monday should be great.

Congrats!

Also BTW, the grad student at TAMU e-mailed me earlier this week requesting samples. Sof everyone is inclined pull some breast feathers and put them in a ziplock. (one bird per ziplock).

Congrats, Masters on the birds. Called in a group of jakes, unfortunately no longbeards wanted to join the party over between Tilden and Three Rivers. Then the monsoon hit. Called it a day.

Pretty good morning. Had a buddy of mine double up on longbeards with his .410 that were close enough to headshoot with a bow. One of the Toms had some great big hooks and the other bird had an 11Ē beard. Weíll give them a run this evening if the rain lets up....

Too windy to carry a popup, sitting on the ground before the rain blew in. Sitting at home wishing donít put birds in the cooler!

Nice haul Masters...interesting set of chokes on that 410. From the pics I initially thought it was a 28.

Comp-n-chokes extended extra full. It patterned well out to 40, but these were killed close so it didnít matter. I will say, the little .410 donít spook all the birds in the pasture when it speaks....

If you have hens, you have toms close by.

Got into some gobbling birds (sounded like three traveling together), but didn’t set up where they wanted to be. They were inside of 100 at one point and then moved off. Rain started up, and I decided to call it. I like my chances today. Nice just to hear some spring thunder once again. The build up to season over the last couple weeks was almost more than I could stand lol between the new content being released by the hunting public and some recent turkey related purchases.

Worked a couple of birds today with my wife, just run and gun with one decoy. She is more observant and patient than I am when longbeards come in, and waits for the perfect shot. So as humbling as it can be both were inside of 30 and walked away unscathed. If only I would have had her little 20ga....

Question for the experts. Takin Snoop (8yo) out for youth turkey this weekend. Heíll be shooting my 1100 20ga, 28Ē mod. Not going looking for ammo this week. I have 2 3/4Ē Express Long Range 4s, 5s, and 6s. Which would yíall use?

Iíll set dekes at 18 yds or so.

Gut says 6s for a more dense pattern, or maybe 6 then a 5 then a 4, but I doubt we get two shots...
