    Otters?

What do you think these are in the pictures, my best guess is Otters?

The camera is in a 3 acre field in the middle of the woods, but there is a 2 acre pond about 1/2 mile away.
The direction they are traveling is away from the lake location.

This is between Centerville and Buffalo on the west side of 45 so not close to the Trinity river.
Been hunting this area for 30 years and have never seen one otter let alone 5 in a group, so not sure what is in the picture.

Sure looks like it to me. Cool.

EDIT: Quick google returns plenty of articles all saying the same - Otters on the rise in texas waterways. One even mentioned them popping up in Buffalo Bayou in Downtown Houston.

Hard to tell, but if you’re thinking “otters,” we have a River Otter living in one of our tanks. He’s done quite a bit of landscaping around his tank, too!

I believe that your best guess is correct. Is there any water the direction they are headed?

No water close the direction they are headed.
I am about 1-1/2 miles directly west of Overton fisheries so i may need to warn Todd that fish eaters may be in the area.

And he will eat every last one of the fish.

Thats a fact. Otters in a small tank or lake will decimate the fish population real quick.

                      Otters?

We had property on a spring fed creek near Leona that fed into the Trinity. Ran during the droughts. Full of otters.

Your pics look more like minks. Our otters were probably 3 ft from tail to head. Bet the wife still has pics standby.

Hmm…I’ll have to follow up on this as we are trying to propagate the fish population in that tank by small, incremental transfers of caught fish.

                          Hope they’re still there.

                            Minks

Mink and otters look very similar, so they can be hard to identify. So how do you know which one you saw? Check out our guide for easy identification.

Yup, we have some on our camera near the creek this year as well. Be neat to see them in person.
