Default Dove Loads - Is this our new norm?

Have been to 3 different Academy's and 3 other gun shops between Beaumont and Corpus. The cheapest a case of dove shot I can find is $99.99 a case before tax. This is for the cheap Monarch stuff that I was buying last year for $50 a case. Is this what we should expect from here on out? It's not going to stop me from hunting, but I'm trying to figure out if I should buy a couple cases at that price of it's going to go up $50 more a case next year? Anyone know where to buy some shells cheaper?

I think it is quite possibly the new norm. Ammo is high, the price on most ammo has at least doubled. Lucky for me, or maybe unlucky. I was in the habit of buying a few cases every year before dove season but I haven’t had any birds in 5 years so I'm good for now.

It's exactly why I started reloading again, even bought a 20ga mec grabber to match my 12. For quite a few years due to the price of components it was cheaper to buy shells. Not any more.

Yep. The days of $40 for a case of winchesters ain't coming back. Everything is $10 a box now, more than that if you like good stuff. Still the cheapest part about hunting though.

I have a 12g and 20g but my go to dove gun is my Wingmaster 16g and while I have a couple cases of 7.5 I haven't seen many around lately and if I do find them, they are stupid expensive.

$10-$11 per box is what I am seeing everywhere on dove loads.. I would be surprised if they ever drop by much.. Make those shots count...

Walmart has a small 'case' of 4 boxes of 3" steel. Last year was $45, this year $65.

I think it's the new normal. We have completely stopped shooting trap/skeet/sporting clays. I can't afford 500-1000 rounds a weekend.

Two years ago 16 ga. was not much more expensive than 12 or 20 ga., now on the rare occasions you can find any, it's expensive.

I saw two boxes of 16 ga. on the shelf, after many months of seeing zero on the shelf. Wal-Mart was my secret place for 16 ga., those two boxes were the first I have seen, in probably two years. I grabbed them and took off. They turned out to be 4 shot.

I have started looking at the labels on the shelves, that have the product and the prince. I have been noticing that most stores don't even have a 16 ga. label on the shelf. So I have not been getting there after they sold out, they are not ordering any.

I 100% paid no more than $55 for a case of Monarchs last year. Remington Heavy dove was $65 a case I believe. Now both are listed at $99.99 a case this year at the 3 Academy's that I have been by.

i loaded up last year and still have about 10 cases left. We go in big groups usually and several of us got a bunch last year for the out of state guys so I didn't use as much as i thought. So this year, is covered already for me. They are around $10 a box around me now

I paid $90 in 2020, and Rios were $110, but that's when things were crazy.
Sitting on 2 pallets of Doves loads now, but I ain't buying anymore until I'm in my 50s
Prices did come down some last year, but still $50 is a smoking deal.

You won't save enough money to make it worth your while. Unless you are loading 16,28, or 410. Primers are .10 each, shot .15-.20 plus wad and powder. Figure .40 cents a round. Times 25 and you are at $10 a box.

Not sure of the cost, but my loads are not cheap monarch. I have 1000 primers and 5 pounds of clays from way back when. Plenty ofAA hulls too.

Might as well buy the good stuff. By the time you buy the walmart stuff and pay tax you could have gotten some of the best shells ever made.

Thats what kind of ticks me off. Almost double the cost of 20 or 12. I found some online for $15 a box.
