Default Dead heads.....what have you found?

Visited my wife's uncle in Lakeway over Thanksgiving. They have 15 fenced acres. Found this guy at the back of the property with his foot caught in the fence. Coyotes and critters had gotten to him, but man he still stunk.

Found a spike that got its back legs hung between the two top wires. Coyotes got on him within a day or two. Tough way to go…

Hunted this guy for a couple years. He disappeared after the rut one year. Walked up on him on the edge of a cactus flat when the birds found him.

Found a small 8 point a couple weekends ago that looks like someone left. He wasn't a legal buck.

I have found many dead heads, but noting nice. I think the largest was a buck we think was hit by a car, it was on my mother's place, it is maybe a 14" wide 8 point. All of the rest I have found, are spikes to 6 points, that were all under 12" wide, I have found a bunch of those. Probably the most interesting one I ever found was a mouflon ram years ago, while bow hunting. Pretty nice ram, the whole ram was curled up under a bush, it was probably a four year old skeleton.

Those three bucks are all pretty nice bucks, that third one, is very nice.

I have hunted a multiple pieces of property that had some very large bucks, never once, found one dead or found their sheds either. I have found numerous sheds over the years, usually many years old, chewed up by rats, most of those were not much of anything. I have found a couple that had only been on the ground for about a year, still nothing impressive, and always just one side, never both sides.

my wife said why do you want to shoot the old smaller rack 10 point. just let him get old and die. This thread reminds me of why we put those down for dinner.

A little more than just a head but we found this one on our fence line on the neighbors side a couple years ago. Neighbor said he didn't shoot it.
Public land is only 150 yds or so, so may have been shot over there and not recovered. Its ashame. Public hunter would've certainly been proud of that one.

I found a set of locked bucks one morning walking back from my bow blind. I must have walked by them many times before finding it. I went back and looked through old game camera pics and found a picture of them locked up the year before. I had the taxidermist clean them up and mount them. Maybe one day Iíll have them shoulder mounted in a fight.

Hereís a couple. Had high hopes for the young ten point with the long brow tines, but found him dead at a tank where I saw him regularly. My best guess is he was killed in a fight. Tip of one antler is broken off. Had never seen the other ten, but found him dead on a trail leading to my blind.

No pictures but best dead head I have found was a 146 twelve pt, a 140 eleven point and an old 130 ten point that had been injured the year before and went down 20"s before he died early the next fall.

Here are a few of mine.

Found the axis head then realized I had a few years of his sheds as well.

The pics with ducks in them are from duck hunting big ponds down south. Can usually find a decent number of sheds/deadheads around them. Same pond, different spots on different hunts, but both of those heads were buried in the mud. No telling how long they had been there.

Found the elk in Nevada, on a knob glassing for mule deer. Super old, massive, gnarly old bull with almost no teeth left. JBone found a matching set of muley sheds on that same knob.

Me and the dogs found a small spike while we were looking for my 8 that I shot the afternoon before(found the 8 quickly and intact). The spike I think had been chased and killed by coyotes sometime during the night. He was half eaten. Didnít see any bullet hole.

Sure miss those days of being able to hunt a lease for a nominal cost that didnít create greed and a feeling of despair if you didnít kill something!

I usually lean heavily into the late 70's and early 90's shows but this one from 1970 really showcases both early acoustic/folky Dead to more electric jam material that would continue throughout the decade, a real gem.

There are some absolute giants in those neighborhoods. The city of a Austin owns a bunch of the green space in the area. Itíd be good to have management hunts. Lots of deer in the ditch.
