Figured I would start this thread now. A lot of time and effort have been spent on this hunt already, preparing and doing our homework. This is a 20+ years in the making adventure for our group. After getting drawn for Powderhorn last season and having once in a lifetime experience, this is the LAST thing we expected. All glory to God on that. Dad (HCtracker), Brady (arrowsonly88) and myself will be headed to south Texas to chase brush country monsters on the Monday following Thanksgiving weekend. It's been a while since I've been in the Golden Triangle and I CAN NOT wait!

Went there on a Javelina hunt in February years ago. Spent almost as much time looking for arrowheads as hunting. Great place! Good luck

Don't be surprised if you see a warthog, they are spreading throughout that area. I saw a huge one just west of there a couple years ago, My BIL said they have them on trail cameras around Catarina.

Good luck on the hunt. My son and I just got back from their last youth doe hunt. He shot a doe early Saturday afternoon so we didn't have to hunt our compartment real hard but did see a 15"+ 8 pt. We were in the far SE corner of the place. FYI, the senderas haven't been shredded so its pretty grown up.

Thanks fellas!! We will be hunting compartment #10/ West Blocker. Looks like there’s plenty of browse with all the rain they’ve gotten. Weather looks decent with the “cold” snap coming in.

I'll be down the road from you a short ways in Catarina helping my son in law cull deer that weekend.

The warthogs are there. I was talking to him on the phone last week when I heard him say "What the H E L L is that?" He glassed it and it was a big old warthog running down the road in front of him. He tried to get a shot at it but it disappeared into the brush.

I believe the warthogs came from the Brittingham ranch that borders Chap on the west. I think Sika on here works there.

Almost packed up! We are loaded down but I’d rather have something and not use it than to need it and not have it. Going to shoot our bows one last time this evening and then headed south tomorrow!

I have the same tripod. If you pull the bolt in the leg with the steps, it folds down nicely.

Also, looks like you have a dog crate. I don't think dogs are allowed, unless you have prior arrangements with them.

Thanks for the tip! Yes sir, we have prior arrangements with Whitney. We track all over Texas. We offered to let our dog track for other hunter on the hunt as well.

Best of luck to y’all. Was down there last year and it was hot hot hot hot. Looked at weather and the high for this Tuesday was our lows. Y’all should have a much better hunt than we did.

Good luck! We will be hunting next week in the East blocker. I will be following along. Most of the folks have told me that they use the drainages and avoid the blinds.

If yall are staying in the primitive camping area make sure to say HI. I'll be in a dark gray Dodge Ram 1500, currently covered in mud. If you hear somebody beating on a guitar and trying to act like they know how to sing, that'll probably be me. Be sure to stop by.

We are staying in a cabin down the road but we were talking about stoping by the camping area to talk with other hunters and hangout. I’m always down for some live music. Hopefully you arrow a giant and won’t be singing the blues. Best of luck, buddy!

I wouldn't just focus on the drainage areas. Those seem to be better for the javelinas. Drive the senderos first thing and look for heavy used trails and scrapes.

Hunted West blocker years ago with a buddy. Helped him carry a tripod into a flat he scouted the day before from an old tower. We made so much noise in the middle of the day setting it up. I went to the truck to return tools and he climbed up into the seat with loppers to clear branches. wouldn’t you know it two potential aged shooters came running in to investigate the noise. Unfortunately for him, limb loppers aren’t Legal means of harvest

We never let our bows out of our hands the rest of the time in the field.
