For the past several months, I have had deer at my Corn Feeder and my Protein Feeder every day. The past 8 days, nothing. I assume acorns are everywhere and the deer are on them. Is anything similar happening in your woods? Hunting in Anderson County, East Texas.

Yep. I say it’s acorns.
Corn is actually still on the ground after deer leave here at the house. Not like this summer where they came in the yard begging for more. BP |

I`m just not seeing any bucks. Been on this lease for 5 years and always have 4 or 5 decent bucks on camera this time of year. I see 8-10 does every time I go this year. Had 2 does and a spike see me throwing out hand corn yesterday and came running and started eating 60 feet from me, so they are hungry. Hopefully it has to do with the lack of water this summer and our stock tanks went dry.

Same in Burnett County. In August I had does watching me n the dogs repair feeder pens they wanted the corn so bad, now, they walk all around me up in my tree and never walk into the pen. All the acorns are on the the ground now and rain is coming (please G-d let it rain). They will be back soon enough

We have lots of acorns this year, but the deer are still cleaning up the corn, within an hour after the feeder goes off. I watched a doe and fawn eating acorns this morning, that was till a nice buck went after the doe. There was a wall of yaupon between me and them, could not get a shot. So went and got the card out of the camera I knew he would be on, it looks like it was the big 8 that has been showing up this month. Wished I could have stayed in the stand longer. I know they will be hanging around all day.

Yep I’ve got a few regular does & 6 point that are faithful. I had 5 shooters but they’re all gone right now. I hand corn & have a trough but I haven’t thrown corn or added any to the trough in about a week. Hopefully the shooters will turn back up.

Big acorn crop. Deer, hogs, and even the coons aren't showing much on my feeder camera. And still plenty of pin oak acorns in the trees. Wind and rain will be our friend, Lots of wind should help bring down the acorns, and wet weather can sour them over time.

Neighbors feed year round but do not hunt, they are Deer Watchers not Hunters. Once we get colder weather and the acorns sour(assuming we get some rain)I am sure the Deer will be back!

Some of my deer are back along with a Traveling Buck that I have not seen before. Still not eating my corn or protein very much. But they are all over my Buck Forage Oats Food Plot that is really doing well after several inches of rain and more on the way.

In Burleson County the pigs have started to root the fields again and feeders don't throw outside the pen. Lots of big pigs at night. More bucks than I could of hoped for showed up last week at the feeders.

I was running ~1000 lbs of protein / month out of two feeders until the acorns started falling.
They haven’t eaten 50 lbs of protein between the two feeders in 3-4 weeks now. And they like protein MUCH more than corn. |

I haven't had a mature-ish buck on my cameras at all, but I have only had them up a couple weeks.
I used to have a nice buck show up at the cabin when I hand fed the deer, but I believe he is now 5 and a lot more cagey. That, or he got shot last season. ![]() |
