Man I screwed up this evening..

My 10 year old girl put a great shot on a deer this evening. About 530 or so . I made the mistake of not letting him sit long enough. I knew better but we were both so excited. He had blood pouring out of both sides . Jumped him about 75 yards from where she shot him . I let him sit a hour after that . Made it across two small property lines . Crossed into one I don’t have permission to be on. So I had to back out . I plan to talk to them tomorrow. Hope I can at least recover the horns .

That sucks but it happens. My wife shot a deer 15 years ago. We watched it hit the ground. Three of us get out of the stand and weren't really in hurry...we approach and he got up and ran for 200 more yards. I was trying to explain that some times we lose em when we stumbled upon him. Dual lung shot with a .260 Remington.

Absolutely nothing wrong with a 10 yo shooting! I’ve probably only taken 1 that was older than 9. If they can shoot a gun at 30 yards they can shoot a crossbow at 30 yards or less

I disagree sir. All my kids had killed many deer and hogs before they were 10. I wouldn’t trade those time for the world and didn’t need politicians telling what age I can take MY kids hunting. You must not have kids?

Yeah I hear ya bud. When I bought my Slice of Texas in Edwards Co. I made it a point to meet every owner who borders me just for an occasion such as this. We all agreed that if “we” were trailing a wounded animal “we” were allowed to proceed with a simple call/text afterwards as to why/when “we” crossed. In the 4yrs being out there “we” haven’t had a single issue on this subject matter. Hope you recover your little one’s deer.

Let us know. My old lady shot two deer. Liver shots. They both made it a lot further than I looked. The buzzards help. Move slow. When you run out of blood look for the trails. Good luck.

Hate that for the kiddo, I’m sure she’s disappointed.

As for the age of the shooter……these days there is so much competition for a kid’s attention if you don’t start them fairly young you might lose them to something else. Keep on your path !

Just from that description, sounds like liver and maybe 1 lung to me. As long as the landowners work with you you’ll find him laid up in some thick stuff tomorrow. Blood probably won’t be great. Keep an eye out around water if you have any near by.

Baylee hunted hard last year just never had a shot opportunity. She did learn a lot . She was calm cool and collected u till after she made the shot . She did great .

Wrong! Grown men have just as much chance of wounding something as a kid, I’ve seen it many times. Sounds like the little girl made a good shot and it was a small mistake by the OP not giving the deer enough time (due to excitement for his daughter). Good luck on the recovery OP.
