Over the last decade it seems often my better bucks have come late in the season. Several of them bucks we've had no previous encounters with either in person or on camera. This ranch has the quirk of not having many mature bucks that come to feeders. And if they do it's post rut and they are often busted up.
Yesterday morning I had a couple of bucks come in like they were regulars. One I had seen once chasing a doe. The other none of us had seen. My freezer is full. Neither tripped the adrenal gland and I never picked up my recurve. Both need at least a year anyway but after a season of year and a half and two and a half year old bucks only they were monsters. Thoughts of next year and better greenery and . . .
Chances are it will be like every other season and I won't see them but hey, it felt good seeing them yesterday.
