No deer eating any hand corn at our place, just lucky rut activity is the only way right now, which was extremely limited on our place. This was the only buck I saw all weekend and what a lucky one to see.

I definitely did not know MLD like I thought I did. This makes more sense to me now.

Thanks to you and Low Fence for the information, it is appreciated.

Man, I missed a bunch of stuff over the weekend with no cell signal.

Some great pics and stories.

Congrats all!

I’ve focused all my deer hunting on my Oklahoma place since 2014, but I tagged a nice buck up there October 2nd and decided to give east TX a try this year. I did a little scouting last Thursday and Friday, and I set my climbing stand on a scrape line. Saturday morning, I passed a really nice young 11 point and ended up shooting a doe that busted me. I got skunked Saturday evening. Sunday morning, I through up a ground blind on another scrape line and saw a young doe, a 3 pt, 4 pt, 6 pt, and a nice 8 pt. Sunday evening, I went back to my climber and saw a different 4 point. I didn’t get to hunt yesterday and almost didn’t go today because of the heat, but I decided to go due to this being a “best” day on the solunar table. The minor time for the morning was 6:19-7:19. Just after daylight, the 8 point I passed on Sunday walked under me at about 25 yards, and a little after 7, I heard something moving through the leaves behind me. I turned and saw it was a buck, but I thought it was the 8 point coming back. I got my binos on him and realized it was a different buck with a huge body, so by the time I decided to take him, he was moving off through the woods away from me. I got him in the scope, and fortunately, he stopped. I shot through a 10-12” gap between two tree at 60 yards. I couldn’t see him but heard him fall, but he got back up and slowly walked about 20 yards twitching his tail. He stopped and fell within sight of my stand about 40 yards to my right.
I knew he was a big bodied buck, but I didn’t realize he was the biggest buck I’ve ever killed in east TX. He bottomed out a 200 lb scale.
He’s not the biggest racked buck I’ve killed in east TX, but he gross scored 130.5”.
I haven’t hunted old school with no corn and no cameras in probably 30 years, and I have to admit it’s kind of liberating.

Oh man that's cool!! My brother has one of the old Savage over/unders that I did a trigger job on for him... Cool guns!
In the pic, it looks a lot like a .410 bore except the barrels are too far apart! I bet that joker is heavy! Ought to be real stable to shoot.

Man that is a helluva buck. Congratulations.

I busted out my climber a couple weeks ago and hunted a scrape line in some open timber near an SMZ. I saw a real nice up-and-coming 10, but taking the fight to the deer instead of waiting for them to come to me was a ton of fun.

Good stuff and congrats on a great deer.

I get questioned quite a bit about not using a camera more or diving into cell cameras. They have their place, but I like going into the woods and being surprised at what shows up. That is most of the fun for me!

I’m actually addicted to cameras and have 4 cell cams and 5 non cell cams running right now in Oklahoma. The decision to hunt was spur of the moment, and I kind of wanted to prove to myself that I’ve still got it.

It’s definitely on where I’m at. Both hind legs on the buck I killed were dripping with pee, and he smelled horrible. My brother saw a buck behind his house a mile away from where I was hunting locked down with a doe almost all day yesterday.

Last week was bussin’. There were deer running all over the place, but ever since that storm Friday night it’s been quiet. My cameras have had fewer and fewer deer each day sense, so I’m hoping the school snap it’s coming up gets them back on their feet.

Yea, I have a pretty decent buck that is locked on to a doe that comes to the feeder behind my house. He's been with her for the past couple days... She's got him pretty stoopid right now. If he's still stoopid Saturday morning, it might be hazardous to his health to come with her out into the open after legal shooting light... I've never killed anything on my place since we bought it back in '15...

A lot of times it’s better hunting in the rain. Keeps the bucks on their feet.

Gettin' a little iffy for me... He's been a no-show since right after I posted about him above!! Probably better anyway... My grandsons would get all twisted off if I shot one of "their" deer!!
They have a swim meet this weekend over in Spring otherwise I'd have 'em out Friday night for a Saturday morning sit... Will update if things change...

Rolled the dice today. I haven’t got a pic in over 2 days….

Good news!… all cell cameras are working!!!

Bad news….. all cell cameras are working….

I got all my browning set in remote satellite locations and they were getting movement including ME this morning… at 1:30 working the same scrape PTA deer had been working.

Several doe pics too. They are skirting the peak of the ridge and I don’t know where they are going to the north. South is bedding. The trail I scouted in Feb looped back around and scent checked the feed pen by 80 yards… but they ain’t going to feed pen.

Hung a platform in a gum tree the size of my thigh at the ground about 20’ up. Praying for good thermals Saturday morning cause I can’t win a wind battle in this property. I need clear sky’s and cold weather…. And the wind can kiss my…, but evenings are an absolute negative here

If I have to bail out there Saturday I hung another platform in the worlds ugliest post oak for Big Jim. Really like the area and plan to call there. I know where the bedding is buck and doe… I just need a player in the locker room and something will move

In last 2 weeks on 4 feed pens I’d estimate less than 5 pounds of corn has been touched. Heck it’s growing in one pen. But every camera I had in scrapes, trails and funnels had deer… they will always be lower pic counts, but they did have deer

Nov9-11 have since I’ve kept records been the highest mature buck sightings days… and. Putting all the chips in and going for broke all weekend!

No deer eating any hand corn at our place, just lucky rut activity is the only way right now, which was extremely limited on our place. This was the only buck I saw all weekend and what a lucky one to see.

Slow slow this evening. This full moon and warmer weather isn't helping. Nothing but a small spike this evening. Hopefully this front will get em back in gear. We had some good vittles though, show pig pork shoulder steaks, deer sausage, greens, and mac n cheese. Was a great evening.

Finally have a couple good deer showing up on our Rusk Co place. The split g2 buck we had last year and he’s really beefed up - this is the first pic we’ve had of him this year. Feeder activity is very slow as it seems like bucks are in cruise/chase mode. Need a hot doe to come to my feeder - I’m determined to kill a buck with my bow this year, so I’m not picking up the rifle. Good luck to all this weekend as this major front blows in. Some great deer on this page so far and many more to come. Good luck to everyone this weekend.

Glad to see some of you having some success!

I have too much to do this weekend to get up to the farm. I hope y'all have a great weekend in the woods and knock down some biguns! We are taking a quick trip up to North TX next week to hunt and I won't be back in the Pineywoods hunting until Thanksgiving.

I’ve seen 2 does and both had multiple bucks on them this morning. The biggest is a split brow 9, hard pass but not quite what I was looking for. Had a short glimpse of one I would kill but no shot.

My son's basketball game was canceled so my plans have changed! I'm heading to the farm at noon.

Very cool. Good luck to you.

I will be interested to hear if the activity is different this weekend from what it has been in Grapeland area.
