Default East Texas hunting 2022-‘23 season

Welp that’s a wrap on ‘21-22 season, this new season brings LOTS of change for myself. Lost my homestead lease of 12 years finally to growth, but I got to end it on a high note with a deer special to me. I’m on Year 2 of one property that hopefully with my main focus can turn into something I had. I’ve got a few other places on the books including buying and moving onto 50 acres of our own to hunt. All in all as much as i hate i lost my favorite property, there’s something exciting about starting from scratch again! Looking forward to this year and as always Its a joy to plug along with everyone!

I don't want to say next year can't be any worse than this past year, but I will say it's got to get better. LOL

2021 was our first year on our East Texas place. Wasn't expecting much since I wasn't able to get on and get everything set up until September. Was able to take 1 nice mature buck and saw a number of others that should be coming along in the next few years. Doing a lot of work on the place this year, and excited for the fall!

Following. Nothing on my place again but there is always next year. I am blessed to have a little land and I love hunting no matter how it turns out.

In for this year.

Last year was a bust for me. Hoping this year I have some of the same ones come back.

We rolled the dice on some absolute studs this year. Several intentionally but a couple we just didn't get killed. Dreaming of next season...

Awesome! I’m in for ETX again.

My 11 year old nephew got his first deer last season! Now his twin brother is on a mission to get one. That made it a great season at our place!

Excited for next season, have a few things we are going to try on one place that should help. This past season was a good one for my family and can't wait for the next one.

Well, I paid my dues for my East Texas place... never even went and filled feeders... Was a slow year for my buddies there though.. Some absolute monsters on camera, but just couldn't get 'em kilt... I'm still gonna try to feed a little and shoot me a hog or two in the next month or so... I promise I'll try to do better next year... My East Texas problem is that I have a place in SE Webb county too... I tripled up there this year...

No joke. LOL

I've got a guy with mulcher clearing a bunch of crap out of a select-cut area at my lease as I type this. Once that's done, boy oh boy, there's gonna be so much room for activities. I am super stoked and really excited about next season.

Fitz-Hill out of Trinity/Lovelady. So far they've been great to work with, and they're nice guys that hunt not too far from my lease.

I feel your pain. I’m moving of of a lease that I’ve only had for 4 years. Looks like I lived there for 20 years. 5 feeders, 2 stands, 2 trailers,1 disc,1 mower,1 planter, 1 box blade and 2 tractors. Who in the hell needs 2 tractors at a deer lease? SMDH.

My brother has killed a couple of decent 8-pointers the past two seasons on our place. I don’t get much time to hunt so I normally just focus on putting meat in the freezer. This year my son & I both scored on a meat hunting weekend
Next year probably im gonna want to put more meat in the freezer

Young deer i was hoping would live, someone made a bad shot around Thanksgiving and he didn't make it through new years.
Really wanted those split brows to grow a few more years.

Good year for numbers here. Doe were non existent during early season/rut. Once the acorns ran out, they were coming out of the wood works.

Had some mediocre bucks that just weren’t there, so they walked. Hoping next year has better options in the way of head gear. I can’t complain as if I really wanted to kill something, I easily could have.

This year I finally figured out my part of Sabine National Forest. Saw 4 shooters the second weekend but was holding out for a bigger buck. Came back before Christmas and shot one of the nice 8s on the 211st.
I'm stoked for this fall now I'll be retired and can stay a couple of weeks if I need to.

One of our guys shot this deer in October, and hit him low. He put the dogs on him and they jumped him a couple of times so the decided to leave him until the next day. Long story short, they never found him. He was filling protein feeders last week and decided to look for him now that all the leaves are gone, and ended up finding him 100 yards from where they stopped looking. 151 3/8

Stud buck I was after this past season was his last. Neighbor 1/4 mile down the road put in a new 50” fence with 1 strand of barbwire at the top. Was helping clear a tree off the fence yesterday and started talking deer. They don’t hunt so I asked if they had any large bucks come through and first response was “we killed a big one that was hung in the fence”. Sure enough after brief description I knew it was him. Today they sent me pics. Sucks he went the way he did and on top of that they disposed of the body over the fence head and all. I searched the neighbors after permission and couldn’t locate the remains. Going on 8yrs of history with this deer and man it makes me sick to see him go wasted. Brows that you dream of over 9”. Just an all around awesome Main frame 10pt.

On to the next one.

Well, I may possibly have a tough decision to make come August or so. I have two small places (40 and 45 acres) in two different counties in East Texas that I dont hunt currently. I really like the lease i have in the hill country of 640 acres, which is basically only me. I have an opportunity to add 125 acres with a cabin to my 40 acre place in Smith County, but not sure if the deal will be done by August timeframe. August gives me enough time to get everything moved from the hill country to Smith County and get everything set up properly. Plenty of game there but just never had many options on 40 acres. It will be a tough decision to move on but doubt I could get around to both very often. I definitely will miss the exotics and the lack of worries about folks messing with stuff.......but I do like the pineywoods. Definitely a curve ball, but a good one I think I can hit!!!

Sir..........i can relate! All my stuff in the hill country will take at least 4 or 5 trips to get it all to Smith County!
