Is there a big difference in the 15 or 12 bat wings? I currently have a 70hp and will be going bigger down the road but, until that time happens I want to get a bigger mower.
Im looking at the Modern Ag galvanized mowers. |

It’s 1/4 bigger. That’s a significant amount of time annually

Go 15' w/o a doubt. You have enough to pull in lighter grass but you can either lift it up, or slow down in heavy grass. Once you have a bigger tractor you will be very glad you got the 15'. 15s are generally heavier built as well. bigger hp gear boxes etc..

I went from a 10' to a 15', and the time savings was significant.

I’ve got a 5’ modern ag galvanized deck. It’s a beast & that deck is heavy duty.
Doesn’t answer your question but wanted to throw that out there they are solid mowers |

15’ might bog you down some on a 70hp.
I do most of my bush hogging with a 5093 but it seems like it drags a little bit in thick stuff with a 15’, which is all I’ll use for times sake. I use an older 4055 sometimes and it pulls a 15’ bush hog alot better in my opinion. If you’re really not doing just a ton, a 12’ would be just fine. |

I’ve got the modern ag 15 and highly recommend it but be careful with lighter tractors, it is heavy. I pull it with a case maxxum 115 4wd. The horsepower isn’t an issue but the weight of the tractor pulling it.

I’ve got an old modern almost 20 yrs old great mower. But I can’t tell you this I wouldn’t buy any of them unless it’s a dome deck model. I know rhino and deer have them. Super easy to clean.
You have figure you are losing 1-2ft of overlap so I would go 15! |

Ive run a 15' with a 70 hp and it was marginal at best. If you are going to running in well maintained areas then a 15' would work. If in rough area/tall weeds the 12' will be much better IMO. I was having to run my tractor wide open in tall weeds. It was just hard on the tractor. We had a 65hp on a 12' at work and it did much better than my 70/15. Now I'm running a 100hp on the 15' and its world of difference

We run a 15' on a 75 hp Kubota and it works great. Keep roughly 100 acres mowed with it each summer.

I pull a JD CX15 mower w my JD 5083e tractor w no problems. When I upgraded from my 10’ mower to a 15’ it made a huge difference in mowing time & also a much better cut.

Really depends on what you are mowing and how you would like it to look when you are done. Also depends on what 15’ cutter you are pulling, I had a 7060, traded it for a m5 111, the 7060 is really not enough hp to pull my 15’ bush hog 3815. It would pull it, but in thick stuff it is way to much load for that tractor. You could raise it up or slow it down, but then you are spending time adjusting things and have portions of what you mow not being cut correctly. I think you would be happier and it would be better for your tractor to go with the 12’.

I have a 10 on my 70 pto hp tractor and sometimes wish it was a 12. Then I hit the heavy stuff and am glad its only 10. Main thing is keep your blades in good shape.

I’m thinking I will go with the 12’. Some of the grass is super thick, made my smaller shredder sweat some. Also, the fact that it’s $6-7k more for the 15’ is a strong case. I can use the extra $$$ for a new trailer.

I will throw you another curve.
For mostly flat ground I would go 10 three point hitch over a 12 tongue pull due to much better maneuverability. |

It depends on how thick it is. A 15' in thick stuff will load a 100+ hp up. In light stuff you can get away with 70-80hp. There is a lot of difference in the cooling on these new tractors too. Are you trying to shred all day in Aug or Feb... big difference there too.
Bush hog makes a great 10' flat deck that is really reliable. A lot less moving parts. Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk |
