With deer season right around the corner always remember.....

Limb rats also need some luv'n. Nothing makes a good gravy like a limb rat!

Killed, cleaned and ate a bunch of them growing up. I do miss it as I haven't done it in a long time. Got my bolt action 410 just itching to go. Maybe one of these days soon.

I’ve skinned & eat many of them. I can remember as a kid hunting them on our place we used to see & kill mainly the fox squirrel but over the years now we mainly see cat squirrels & rarely see fox squirrels any more. Used to be one of my most enjoyable hunts back in the day.

I’ve got flying squirrels in my place where I live now. My neighbor watches them suckers play & gluide from tree to tree with his thermal early mornings

same at our place in houston county. During deer season my dad and I hunted squirrels every other weekend or so. We even hunted the spring seasons now and then.

100% fox growing up and its almost all cats now. I try not to shoot the fox squirrels. Our latest jack russell marks them very well at the house. Im gonna try her out when it cools down and see what happens.

Back in the day if you didn’t squirrel hunt, you didn’t hunt much. There were very, very few deer in East Texas around where I lived. You had to go to DCNF to see one, then to a novice it was mostly tails and heels going through the trees. Didn’t have a clue how to hunt deer but I could always get a mess of squirrels. Ducks and squirrels were my mainstay with a few doves and quail for variety.

I looked forward to opening morning of squirrel season way more than deer season growing up! I left the fox squirrels alone. Too hard to skin and tough. Give me a vest full of cat squirrels! I made dumplins out of the legs and fried up the backs. Fried cat squirrel back is hard to beat. I never got into cracking the skulls and eating the brains but my friends family would fight over em! Always like hearing the boom, and seeing limbs and leaves fly everywhere and seeing a tree rat cartwheel outta that mess!

Grandpa would get mad if we shot em in the head with our 22's. They would put them in the gumbo, and to them eating the brain was a delicacy. Cleaned and ate many squirrels.

I'm an avid squirrel killer. Deer hunts often go astray when the squirrels get to moving. I've been known to climb down from a tree just to chase them around!

One of my buddies has a couple of good squirrel dogs and it is a blast hunting over them.

Before last year I hadn't squirell hunted in years, used to go as a kid nearly every day after school behind the house.

Great memories from childhood. We would load up and head to Louisiana to my uncle's place for opening day. My aunt Edith would always make squirrel, and dumplings for Sunday dinner.

I floated down a river and squirrel hunted once in my life.
That was the best squirrel hunt I have ever been on.

I cut my teeth squirrel hunting last year. I just shoot off my back porch mostly. My last batch of squirrel was given away by my wife to our neighbor because she thought it was our left over raw dog food after our dog died. I sure wish I coulda eatin it before she purged my spoils. I hope to go out and squirrel hunt some this year after deer season.

I saw something today that I've never seen before. Sitting in Houston on the phone in the hood fixing to walk a job. And all of a sudden I saw something rolling on the ground. A Damm house cat grab this fox squirrel and killed it. And this cat wasn't much bigger than the squirrel. Freaking hood rats

Cat squirrels with a .22 is sport. Makes fox squirrels seem easy.
Our Leon country place was mostly fox. The last year is was more 60/40 cats.

Hunted squirrel last year for the first time in a long time. My favorite is to float the river. I'm gonna have to do that this year.

When I was about half to a grape Nehi, I hunted with a shotgun. The old man let me but didn't really like it. Too many pellets he'd say.

Shucked many a tree rat when I was a kid. My grandpa taught me the art of squirrel shucking. My Grandma taught me the art of frying them up. I pretty much made squirrels extinct in north Fannin county back in the good ol days.

We had squirrel dogs for years, and it was lots of fun. My best little dog was a Mtn Feist I got out of Kentucky. We would ride horses or mules and hunt for hours.

Everything has changed so much around here and not many folks will allow any coon or squirrel hunting with tree dogs anymore. Only takes one bad dog to chase a deer and ruin it for all.
