Default 2021-22 east texas season

Well with season a wrap and deer starting starting to
drop seems right to turn the page on the 2020 season! Was one of the best seasons for my household so bittersweet, yet exciting as we have a couple deer that should be monsters this year. So now we hurry up and wait! Letís see those offseason pics sheds, plots, new setups, lease work, velvets pics, and so on! Wish everyone the best season yet and may god bless each one of yíall!

In! Had a good season, filled the freezer with a doe, didn't have a target buck in 2020 so was only after doe. Have my eye on a couple bucks this next year that should end up being solid deer. Already excited and cant wait to put the work in again.

We “should” have an awesome crop of 4.5 and 5.5 yr old bucks this coming season. Several made it through that I know of so far, and I’ll keep my fingers crossed until I start getting pics in August, but our place has the potential to have a really good year.

Trinity County was good to me last year. I shot my PB archery buck on a little 20 acre place. Had a second old buck that when healthy was great looking then got very scraggly after the rut.
Iím not sure on his age, but i doubt he made it through the year. Either the neighbor or age took him. He vanished the day before Thanksgiving. I would have gladly filled my tag on him, but the wider 10 with split brows showed up first.

I have a nice group of 5 young bucks all 1 1/2 to 3 years old hanging out together still with headgear as late as Feb 4th.

Here he is late October

And then very worn down in November

I would be surprised if he was ever seen again. But i am more than happy to wait a few more years for these youngins to grow up some.

Love these kinds of threads.

I had a great year both on my lease and outside. Took a management 7 and does at the lease and a big 8 with a kicker in south Texas.

Planning to improve upon my food plot this year and make some major set moves. Need to rebuild the legs on my 600 pound protein feeder. Only have a little 300 going now.

We filled our feeders last weekend with corn and protein, and put out some minerals. All of the bucks I have on camera are looking healthy, if we definitely want to help them out. We took 2 great bucks, but still have some really nice survivors left for next year. My uncles 150+ 8 was the biggest taken in a long time, it’s going to b tough to beat.

Thank God they have had a couple of months to recover from the rut. We decided to feed protein all year, and they seem to have put back on a lot of weight. Hopefully a little extra fat will get them through this cold snap.

I filled my feeder and turned the three feed times up to 10 seconds each. When I went out there yesterday to take care of this there wasn't a kernel of corn on the ground anywhere. They're HUNGRY.

I had a doe come out in the lane 50-75 yards from me and stare at me pouring feed out in the pen.

This is a wild East Texas whitetail deer doing this. To say they are hungry might be an understatement.

Since we've been stuck inside for several days, I've started tearing apart a bunch of pallets I have had laying around for while to make a new blind. It's going to be heavy but should last for a while. Good news is I've got about 7.5 months to get it done so plenty of time.

Took advantage of the snow and learned a lot about travel routes and bedding areas on one of my places. Also found 4 sheds on another piece, in 25+ years of hunting Iíve only found 2 sheds until this year Iím at 5

Anyone seeing lower numbers since the winter storm?

Had feeders filled the end of February and took till end of March before they started showing up on the cell cam. And doesnt look like same numbers. Maybe they left their home area to find food?

Also, noticed a lot of them have tarsal glands are super flared up. Trying to establish their areas/dominance again?

I did not kill a deer on my 30 acres in Harrison County. Didn't see much. I am driving up there this weekend, going to fill feeders with Golden Oak Horns Plus. It's a Corn/Soybean mix. Will also be looking for a spot to set a pop-up for bowhunting close to one of the feeders. Also, I think I am going to just throw out some rye grass seed in Sept/Oct timeframe and see if it grows. I hope everyone has a great season. God Bless!!!

Skidders and logging trucks had the road going to our camp so jacked up we had to get pulled in and out with a tractor but i guess that's hunting in East Texas. I used to enjoy that stuff but now it's just a PITA.

No joke. I drive a 3/4 ton 2-wheel drive diesel and have been stuck more times than I care to count. Fortunately part of our lease road is maintained by the county, so that helps some, but it's far too infrequent.

On a positive note my area of our lease got select-cut last month, so for the first time in many years I've got some open areas to work with. It's got me so excited for deer season I can hardly stand it.
