Tell me your favorite boat electonics

I have a top end budget of about $1k. What brand, model, screen size ,etc.

My I-phone would be #1 boat electronic device.

Since I primarily wade fish the smartphone does all I need.

You should certainly be able to get a nice 9 inch screen with chartplotter and side scan with that budget. I would go to bass pro and tinker with all 3 major brands. Some like the compatibility with their GPS trolling motors. i really like the user friendly interface of Garmin and wanted the ability to add livescope later.

dbrock also makes a good point. you can buy the Navionics app for your phone or tablet and use that in addition to your fish finder. for $15/year it is a steal and i can sit on the couch and mark spots that look good (either using Navionics or Google Earth coordinates).

              Whats main purpose?

Garmin 742 or 942 or simple, proven, and reliable and can be found in that price range. Lowrance HDX's are really nice as well but I'm a creature of habit familiar with Garmin.

Absolutely! I'm sure there are some state & federal game wardens that would love to discuss means & methods with you.

I had a late uncle that got caught shocking catfish on the OK side of Texoma and bringing them across the state line into Texas many years ago. Cost him some time and lots of money.

Humminbird, Lowrance and Garmin are all good. I would watch the black.friday sales, you should be able to get at least a 9". Last year bass pro and academy had some good sales for black friday online.
