After a 1 year hiatus, "Lady Luck" has once again paid us a visit and the Iowa DNR was gracious enough to grant the group of six Texans a one week pass to the "Land of Giants"...Woodbury County, Iowa!
EHD had a bit of an effect on the area in 2012, but it seems that they were not hit quite as hard as some of the other portions of the state where deer densities are much higher. Mature buck sightings during our 2012 hunt were just a bit down, but to say we are ready for our return to the Midwest would be a huge understatement! Our hosts have kept us primed and ready with pictures of new stand setups, reports of rutting activity kicking into high gear and game camera pics that would make the most seasoned whitetail hunter salivate!
Unfortunately, my three compadres (GJ, Stolle and Stinson) are leaving me behind as they hit the road bright and early tomorrow morning...with a planned departure time of 5:00 AM tomorrow morning from Travis' house north of Houston, they should be rolling in to Sioux City sometime late evening tomorrow...
...the good news is they are not leaving me behind for the whole week...I am catching a plane ride courtesy of Southwest Airlines early Saturday morning after taking my kids trick or treating tomorrow night!
We are primed and ready, with more gear than we know what to do with...so get ready...we are about to invade northwest Iowa for what promises to be another great week of Midwest Iowa whitetail hunting...bring on the rut!!!!
