Just a few years ago a woman was kayaking on our local lake that I fish often and from a kayak also.
She flipped her kayak and got back on it and later that night came down with a serious headache and went to the ER and they diagnosed the brain eating amoeba.
She survived, but not without some damage to her motor functions.
It's something that has always been around, but now with the internet, people are seeing that it's not as rare as what was once thought.
