    11 year quest

What an amazing weekend!!! This buck walked out yesterday morning at 12 yards and I took the shot. The hit looked low in the heart. The buck ran away to the north. I waited until the fog burned off and started looking. Well no blood, arrow, or deer. I went back to camp and got help. We looked for two hours and nothing. It's a giant mesquite flat so finding the deer should have been easy, but no luck. I went back to this stand again this morning in the hopes of getting a doe or the Trophy ten point I was after. Just as I parked my truck the buck I shot popped up right in front of my truck.

I killed the truck and the light. The buck ran off, but I did not go after it. I walked 700 yards to my stand and settled into my ground blind. Before daylight I glassed five deer feeding by me. I picked out the doe and waited. As the light started to burn off the darkness I could see the deer getting nervous. I could not see anything, but they were unsettled.

Out of the darkness walks the buck I shot the day before and stood in the same spot. I was focused and ready to make it happen. At 7:45 I was at full draw and picked my spot. I let the string free and my arrow hit the mark.

The buck ran 100 yards and I could the evidence of a solid double lung shot. I watched the buck walk into the oak thicket. Withing seconds I heard a crash. I waited 45 minutes before leaving the blind. I walked to the last spot I saw the buck and there he lay 50 yards in front of me. I did!!! I finally got my first trad buck. I've taken pigs, turkey, whitetail doe, javelina and black bear, but never a buck.

First shot was low in the brisket
But arrow penetration was poor. Don’t know why
