I think the best deal for your money right onw is the FS12T from bass pro. Its a 12 footer and you can stand on it to fish. Its only $550. I took mine out this weekend with a couple other TBH'ers and had a great time fishin

BrianL the way i learned was all trial and error, had no one show me the ropes, you can take as much or as little as you want, i like to keep it to a minimum. anchor, tackle bag with all hooks, and soft plastics, something to drink and eat, and 2 poles. you will have to find out what works for you
I mean I trying to decide which kayak to buy. I have figured my budget, and there is a lot out there. OK BGA II and WS 135 and 115 ACK Max seat models are at the top... So many choices...

I used to keep all my yak stuff in a milk crate. Just had to grab the crate. I had pole holders zip tied to the crate, so i'd just bungee the crate to the yak and put the poles in there for transport.

Impossible to say what's best. It all depends on what you are looking for.

If you want to just fish and not paddle much you get one answer.

If you like to paddle just as much as fish you get a different answer.

If you like taking the kids out yet another answer.

The pescador 12 pictured above is less than $500 and probably the most versatile yak out there. I've had mine in creeks, rivers, lakes, surf, BTB just about anywhere you can imagine.

There are a lot of demo days in the Spring. My advice would be to go and paddle as many different kayaks as you can before you buy.

AND GO TAKE KAYAK LESSONS - I can't tell you how many guys I see with the paddle upside down and taking 3 strokes for every one you should be taking. Take paddling lessons and you will enjoy yourself sooooo much more.

                          Wear your life vest.........
Night fishing have a 360 degree white light and whistle. (Required by Law)
If your kayak has a pedal system. Bring a paddle along. That pedal drive can break.
Dry store a first aid kit, fire starter & rain gear. If you get stranded for an overnighter you have shelter and a way to start a fire.
Rig your kayak out the best you can and do not over load it.
Have fun and use the buddy system. Try not to go alone. Even a stranger will do.
Other gear is a couple knives. Pliers
Lowrance downscan elite 500/GPS chart plot.
I have a small anchor for deep water. And a stake out pole for marsh and shallows.
My Kayak is a Hobie PA12

DIY stuff is always awesome. I made my stake out pole and my rod holder system. And I jugline from my Yak!!!

I bought a prescador 12 yesterday. I plan on taking it out next weekend. I really liked the Ascend from Bass Pro but thought it was to heavy. I plan on carrying it on top of my truck camper and loading it by myself. The prescador only weighs 60 pounds empty.
