          "Say Hello in There"

An old song by John Prine that encourages young folks to recognize old age loneliness and to take the time to say "Hello in There".

I danced with her for the first time as her husband to this song and every time I hear it I'm taken back to that day. Helluva good day.

                              Zzyzx Rd by Stone Sour

I first heard this song while deployed to Iraq. The lyrics and slow melancholy melody really spoke to me at the time. The whole song is great, but there’s always a line or two that really strikes home.

“I get to go home in one week, but I’m leaving home in three weeks. They throw me a bone just to pick me dry.”

“Propped up by lies and promises. Saving my place as life forgets. Maybe it’s time I saw the world.”

“Where am I supposed to hide now? What am I supposed to do? You still don't think I'm gonna see this through? Tell me I'm a part of history. Tell me I can have it all. I'm still too tired to care and I got to go.”

To this day, I hear it and I can smell the dust and sand. My mouth goes dry and my mood darkens a bit. I listen to it when I feel numb or I feel like I’m forgetting.

I can’t get the video to imbed, but the link is there.
