7-08, but I’m partial to the lighter calibers.

'06. Load it up or down to suit your needs.
If I'm not mistaken, the 7x57 and the 7mm-08 is about the same ca'tridge.

I once had an 8mm. Not a long range gun but for hunting in the woods it is great. Ammo availability is why i got rid of it.

So this threat and seeing the responses I got from it made me do a bit of research on the calibers and I am making a new thread with the ballistics of some calibers and some new ones all pre world war 1 thank you all for your comments

pre ww1 =45-70! or 405 Winchester!, if you want a light round the 30-30 is it!

30-06 is the best all around non magnum made,, also pre WW1

With factory ammo its either the 7mm-08 or 30-06 with the 30-06 being slightly better. Ammo is available anywhere you go, you can get light 125 grain loads all the way to 220 grain.

6.5x55 Swede. Wait, that wasn’t an option.

solocam_aggie, what are you looking for in trade? What grain shells?
I have 7X57 Mauser that I prefer all day everyday over my Ruger M77 .270,killed every deer I have ever shot at with it, low recoil.
