Fix a bent tree?

After clearing a ton of cedars I’m left with a bunch of trees that look like this. How to a straighten these out?




Or will they eventually correct themselves now that they aren’t being chocked by cedar?

Is that a dogwood? I think you can't manually straighten it. It grew like that because it was crowded and that's where it could get sun light. It should straighten itself some if you keep it clear of other trees.

I had oaks like this after I cleared my property. It’s been about 5 years now and most look pretty good. Some still have great character just like that one! You might try pulling it as straight as you can with a rope(s) and staking it. I’d just let it be and enjoy the outcome.

I had some of my cedars do this back when we had the big freeze. I have a long chain come along and I just wrapped a choker around the top of the bend and hooked to a adjacent tree. Pull back up straight and tied off with some 1/4” rope.
Probably time to go around and remove the ropes.

They will not correct themselves. They’ll just grow branches out of the other side now that there isn’t anything in the way. That bend will always be there.

This is the way to go. BTW the tree posted looks like a pecan tree.

I beg to differ but younger saplings will and can grow straighter I have several burr oaks that can prove it. Clear the competition and the growth towards the sun with some guide rope will help.

It's called etiolation, where a plant is searching for sunlight. It can be straightened over time using rope ran through old water hose to protect the bark.

Indians used to bend trees like this to mark trails and are really cool as mature trees.

Look at Bonsai tree culture. The same techniques, but larger scale' will work to straighten those trees with out a lot of work.
