I had an uncle who owned a cabin on a Rez in the white mountains in Arizona back in the 80’s. There was an agreement in writing about him having it there. The res officials decided they wanted the cabin and took it. Appearantly there was nothing he could do since it was on res land. It was a really cool large A frame on a small mountain lake

We were once hunting in Colorado and had to drive thru the rez to get to where we hunted. We had no issues until 2 of the guy's decided to hunt at a lower altitude and accidently left their truck and horse trailer parked on rez property without permission. They had to go before the council and explain about the muley they killed that wasn't on the rez. I wasn't with them but it got a little dicey but they never felt their life's were in danger.

Who are you looking to work for in the reservation? If the nation contacted you for your services then it is a no brainer to go do the work. I think your buddy has been watching too much Longmire.

I actually do a lot of work on reservations here in Texas. But then again I'm not white.

From what I've seen on ''Yellowstone'' they can be pretty shifty...

You have nothing at all to worry about. I am white and have a German last name. My Great Grandmother was Native American. I spent some time on a reservation and never felt threatened. I’ve also been back as an adult. I’m not saying it was the most prosperous part of the area but you are worrying about nothing.

I worked on the res in North Dakota and hated every minute of it.

There is no way in hades I will EVER work on another "rez" job! We did a pipeline on the Navajo reservation in western N.M and it was crazy! We had to run ads on their local radio station advertising jobs for them, we had to hire a certain percentage (they wanted 100% but there wasn't 2% that were qualified), When I fired one for coming in snot slinging drunk we got sued for discrimination. On welding test day we had Navajos show up with miller cracker box welders in their truck show up asking where they could plug in their machine to take the welding test! It was the most insane job I've ever been on! We had to hire a Navajo attorney to represent us for me firing the drunk. You think that attorney was looking out for the company interests? Yea right, NOT!
                    Nope NEVER again!

This is something that won’t even be considered without knowing everything that I can possibly know up front.

I’ve heard stories of white guys being drug before the Indian council to make a show of things. And to teach them a lesson on Indian ways. One person said sometimes depending on circumstances you may not be so lucky to even get before a council. Now these stories had more to do with white hunters on a reservation. I sure don’t want to the recipient of their violence and hatred just because I’m white. Right now I’m still just trying to learn what to expect with this work. So many unknowns.

I feel like I'm stuck in an episode of Longmire.

I’ve done construction on new casinos on reservations with no issue at all.

All I know is when I was in ND, the guys told me it was ok to date Indian girls, but under no circumstances go on the Rez. Seems they don’t want any white blood contaminating their gene pool. We had several Indian “oilers” and all I saw were lazy as hell. The operators had to do their own greasing, undercarriage clean out, etc. but the Indians got paid for it.

I spend a lot of time on the Navajo Nation and have never had a problem with the natives. I have become really good friends with some of the locals and consider them to be part of my family. The folks that I deal with are honest and extremely Patriotic.

Squaw is not PC guys, at least in Idaho.

When I was young, we caught a trash fish in Idaho rivers we called squawfish. I have been told recently they now answer to "chisel mouth pike minnow".
