Don’t forget to take a bag of corn to bait them in!

                Deck wear

I typically take some rubber deck boots and a pair of old, don't care if they get wet, tennis shoes and flip flops. The Gulf water temp, offshore in winter, stays around 71 degrees.

Layer clothing under rain jacket and pants. The rain jacket/pants cut the wind and help control water & blood soaking your undergarments.

Sleeping bag and or blanket for the bunk. We typically nap on the sail out, fish all night and then nap when we move and make sailing adjustments. The alarm clock is, diesels stop running, it's time to get out on deck.

Nights we drift and chunk near floaters in 3000 - 9000ft of water. Day we drift and troll for tuna and or deep drop for cool fish like tilefish, barrelfish, Blackjacks, African Pompano, various snappers, warsaw groupers and Almaco Jacks.

We run into marlin, swordfish, wahoo, Mahi and mako sharks during this time of the year out there. Considering the Gulf stays warm way offshore, and a bulk of the North Atlantic fishery migrates south with some, swimming into the Gulf, anything is possible.

                            Gonna like that LX Biggs!

I switched to one last year, right before a trip to the Mexican Baja - it casts and fights fish like a dream!
