My go-to bait, but ants do love sweets. If we are having a cold spell, they work fine, but if it is warm and sunny, corn is the way to go. Don't like cat food due to too many possums and skunks getting caught.

So if you do catch a cat, how do you release it without getting scratched or bit?

I use dry cat food coated in fish oil. I bought a gallon of it for $25ish and it has lasted me 2 solid years of trapping. I rarely catch skunks and have caught 3 in 3 years.

                    2014- 37 coons and 25 possums
                    2015- 49 coons, 43 possums, 2 skunks
                    2016- 47 coons, 22 possums, 1 skunks
                    2017 so far- 9 coons, 6 possums

If you have problems with ants just sprinkle some seven dust around the trap. Works for me.

I threw a couple wet towels on the cat and the fight began.. I finally got it stuffed in a pillow case and took to the vet.. It had a sore paw but no long term damage.. Lucky for the cat I knew the neighbor's daughter would be all torn up if it was gone..
