Do these pennington sunflower seeds from Wal-Mart sprout?
I've heard rumours of them being sterile

From my limited Google I'm a little worried
I was at the checkout st Wal-Mart and grabbed this bag for $14 because I've heard how well they do

Threw out the seed surrounding a gas pad

Got home to Google and am reading that ONLY pennington heat treats their seed they sell thru Wal-Mart so it won't germinate under bird feeders

I know if I would have grabbed a bag from tractor supply or my feed store I'd be ok.

I threw out 35 lbs so if I only get 5% germination rate I'll be happy

That sucks- good to know though for the future. I wouldn't have known that they weren't germinated.

I have had good luck. The only bad thing is, when they came up (1'' or so) the deer mowed them down. I only planted 2 acres.

Hogs came through and sucked up all 40lbs of sunflower seed I broadcast.

I mean not a single kernel was left.
