For those interested, the shorter legs on the left were not an accident Cutting them ~ 1 1/2" shorter meant I didn't have to lift that bad boy as high to wheel it around and it gave me lots of wiggle room to level it so the grease drains through the drain hole (My dogs' favorite part...they're my cleanup crew under the pit lol). As it turns out, the 2x4 was a perfect shim

I did. Blacksmith brand high temp black BBQ paint.

Wire wheeled the entire pit to remove surface rust and wiped down with mineral spirits prior to painting. Rolled it on the large sections and brushed on the rest. 2 coats. I have used this paint on 2 other pits and none of them have blistered, peeled or discolored even after a few years of use. This stuff is super thin but I've never seen anything cover so well...you'll need a respirator (even outdoors) b/c it has a crazy amount of VOCs.

What did you use to cut the pipe, lids and firebox door?
