I would recommend going to Texas Archery in Spring and shoot several bows. I don't believe they sell Elite though, so you might want to find a shop to shoot one of those as well. I'll admit that I'm a Hoyt fan but my Elite is super smooth and quiet.

If you're after a new bow, try the PSE NXT 33. Not a speed demon but smooth and easy all the way to the stops.
