6.5 Grendel on Deer

Mine likes the 123 SST/ELDM. Doesn’t like the fusions.

Barnes do very well as do 135 Bergers.

I have shot a few deer with mine. 123 SST's did great damage and the deer did not go far at all. However none of them had an exit wound which was a little disturbing.

Anybody shooting the 130gr Federal Gold Metal? I picked up a few boxes and my Grendel shoots them well.
Just haven't had a chance to shoot a hog or deer.

I used to shoot the SST in a 270 win and 308. 5 deer and a dozen hogs and none exited. The SST loses all its energy in the body. Basically blows up.

My furthest with my 12.5” 6.5 G SBR has been 381 yds.
At that distance it is still moving around 1750fps with 840 lbs of energy.

Yes they shoot great but I won’t use them for hunting, especially at the relatively lower velocity of the Grendel. They are extremely consistent for factory ammo though.

The way I understood it the SST is designed to come apart at those velocities, but at around 2300 ft./s it should mushroom more like a normal bullet.

I don't think we've ever had an exit wound with Grendel, except for a pig I shot in the head, but we've never needed one.

Here is what the Hornady Black 123gr Grendel will do at 150yds, shot a Axis spike in Dec. no pass thru, he took 5 steps and fell over.
