    UTV Trailer Build

Spent the last few weeks working on a trailer to haul our side by side with a few simple requirements. It needed to be fairly lightweight to allow my tacoma to pull it, small enough to get around the lease roads, easy to load and unload if by myself, and built in ramps. After browsing the web I had "borrowed" several design ideas to use, my first step was a split tongue design to eliminate sway.

Next was to put about 18" of the back trailer deck in a dovetail design to make loading easier transition. Locating a 5'X10' expanded metal sheet was not easy to find and I was a little disappointed the weight was a little light for what I wanted, so I concentrated on reinforcing the trailer deck to support the expanded metal which worked out better in the long run.

Next was the axle install 3500# axels tacked in and the fold down shorty ramps will slide in and out to accomodate 4-wheelers as well and lock in place for transport.

Trial run with loaded rig, I was pleased to see axle was placed correctly and didn't squat my pickup too bad.

A little paint, reflective tape, spare tire carrier, 2 ratchet binders, and LED lighting and the trailer is ready to roll! I left pull wires inside trailer frame so all trailer light wiring is hidden and cannot be jerked loose by brush.

                Nice work, as always.

That steep angle on those shackles is gonna eat them up pre-maturely, though.

Thanks gentlemen, Dale you got me worried but I was looking at my shackle angle as you described but believe I'm good, as I referred to etrailer.com guidelines when installing, I think the picture you saw was just when they were clamped in place.
