Rabies is probably the most deadliest pathogen known to man with an almost 100% fatality rate if left untreated.

Once you start showing symptoms (usually about a month), it’s too late.

And it’s a very horrible death. YouTube has some good documentaries on the topic.

Rat shot or grab a shovel...IMO, could be one of the best life lessons one needs for reference in similar circumstances.

I recall hearing a detailed horror story as young man about a fisherman getting hurt trying to save a fowl hooked gull while fishing...ended up with scars, the hook in him & an infection / hospital visit. I hooked one decades later on a guide trip & handled it quite differently.

No. The immunoglobulins (which are what helps to kill the virus at the site immediately) are weight based and as much as possible is infiltrated around the wound and then the remainder give as a intramuscular injection. The vaccine is give intramuscular (they gave in his arm) and give at day 0, day 3, day 7 and day 14.
