    Thief alert

I wanted to put this in it's own thread to spread the word. My outboard was stolen in Sargent TX a couple weeks ago. I reported it to the Matagorda County sheriffs Dept and they sent an investigator out to my property to look around and ask questions of the neighbors. They we're telling my neighbor across the street they there's a group of thieves that drive around taking pictures of your stuff, like my outboard, they post pictures of the stuff on the internet for sale. When they get a buyer they go steal it, they don't have a lot of stolen sitting around. He was part of the task force that's investigating it. It makes me hate thieves even more. Keep an eye out.

These thief alert post are just too often now. Just so sad. Until the DA's get serious about putting these people away for a while I am not hopeful these posts will end.

Not the DA’s it’s the judges/jury’s the system as a whole is flawed, policemen are held to criminal liability for their mistakes but judges prosecutors and most jurors are not.

I disagree, theft cases rarely go to a jury, or trial at all. The DA's office pleads it down and counts it as a win. Going to trial is their worst nightmare and it seems they reserve it for some murder cases.

I am aware of a guy with three felonies, he was handed about 20 years total. I think he served at most 3-4 years. One of them was assault/robbery.

Until someone that is arrested for a Felony robbery/theft charge starts serving actual time nothing will change. They get caught, plead down to some nonsense serve 10-20 days in the county jail, and are back out and doing the same things.

HIC is pretty much spot on

Kevin, have you looked on offer up, FB market place etc for a motor like yours? Thats were a lot of stolen stuff is found.

I know there was a kayak theft group rollin up and down the coast a couple years ago that was storing stuff all over. Some of the guys came from as far away as DFW

I've looked as much as I'm capable, me and the Googler don't get along well. Theft is on the rise all over and the crooks are good at doing bad things. A smarter guy than me is going to have solve this.

My BIL had his credit card info stolen, surprisingly it was local as one of the charges was for an Internet pickup at a local Walmart. They had a name (order would be picked up by my BIL or thief’s name) and a pickup time. Police refused to go there and arrest the guy.

No wonder crime is on the uptick, there’s no risk, all reward

I don’t know about other counties but i give credit to the voters in Harris county in 2016 when they voted out all of the conservative judges and replaced the with the liberals in office now.

Had the same thing happen to my wife at the time(now my ex). 2 charges popped up on our account as pending for a casino in Vegas. I called up Chase to let them know of the fraudulent charges and that the perp was probably still there. They told me to call them back after the charges post.

So I called the casino. Talked to a supervisor who told me she will call me back in 2 hours after she looked into things. An hour and 45 minutes later she calls me back to confirm what I said was true. The person at the front desk who took the fraudulent card was fired on the spot for not checking photo I.D., the perp was still in the casino, and Vegas P.D. just escorted him out in cuffs.

Got a call the following day from a detective with the Vegas police department asking if I want to press charges. Well yeah of course I do. Filled out the paperwork at my local police station. A couple more days go by and the detective calls me back. The perp lived in Vegas so the got a warrant and searched his house. Found blank credit cards, a card making machine, and about 10,000 stolen credit card numbers!!!

He got charged with 7 or 8 things but I don’t know what came about from it all. Since the casino was involved and had pressed charges too, I don’t think he got off too easy. You don’t mess with casinos in Vegas!!!

91cavgt you are lucky! That’s not the norm. Those crooks are hard to catch and usually have many layers between you and them. Good job by LVPD.
