In my yard, the deer eat the white oak acorns first, then the live oak and, if the neighbors haven't yet planted the pansies, they'll eat the red oaks.

We have numerous water oaks, pin oaks, post oaks, and blackjacks, with a red oak here and there.

My family has live oaks in the yard up on a hill surrounded by pasture. The deer will come to the yard and eat the live oak acorns every night. So they have to like them as they have plenty of trees to choose from in the area. The deer aren't starving either. I feed protein and now corn year round. They barely have come to the feeder in the last month with the acorns dropping.

According to some studies live oak acorns are very high in tannins which makes them less preferable and bitter to deer but deer will still readily consume them. I know our deer still hammer the live oak acorns.

Currently thermal hog hunting. Feeder has a pile of corn underneath it. 8 Deer scattered all through the live oaks. Acorns are thick right now.
