No joke, I thought linseed oil was very flammable. It can actually spontaneously ignite under the right circumstances.
After researching - yes 120* Fahrenheit is all it takes. However, I talked to the fine folks at my local wood shop and they said that once it has been on the piece for about a week, it should be cured and the flammability aspect shouldn't have any affect. I also found out that ash tray's themselves used to be made out of wood (which I didn't know) so I'm fairly certain that in a few days, he should be able to use it without fear.
We'll find out shortly! I had the same type of wood that I used to show what two different finishes look like so I may take a blow torch to the linseed side and youtube it.
