I enjoy scouting and hanging a new set almost just as much as Hunting itself. The excitement of a new stand is something else.
That being said I hung a set this afternoon over looking a trail crossing a narrow pipeline where deer come and go from a bedding area. It’s nearly on top of where they bed. During the October Lull I’ve found this is my best bet at killing a mature deer in East Texas. Get close to where they bed with easy access and obviously a good wind.
I put 100# of hand corn on this spot 2 weeks ago and 100# last week and it is all gone. 3 fresh scrapes run along the pipeline all within 10 yards of each other. I have yet to hang a camera but did today after I hung the stand (I know kind of backwards) I will be making a hunt in the morning without knowing what has been making these scrapes which is also kind of a exciting feeling that I haven’t felt in a long time. Regardless I will also be trying to shoot a doe to get my dad some meat. So wish me luck and hope it’s a good deer making the scrape!
