    Alligator Gar-Fishing Recap

My youngest son wanted to catch a big fish for his 11th bday. I didn't have time to take him down to the coast and his busy soccer schedule didn't allow us to take more than a day. So I did my research and found an Alligator gar guide not to far from DFW. Chris Mody with Gar Fishing Addiction was who I chose to go with. Felt he was the most experienced and the best opportunity to put my son on a huge fish. We met Chris at the boat ramp at 7am. We launch and by 7:30am my son had his first hook up. Being only 11 he didn't quite have the strength to keep the rod tip up so the guide and I helped him with the rod only and he had to do all the reeling. First fish was a 5.5ft gar. Bigger than my son. He was excited. We moved on to the next spot and about 9am we hook a monster. Fish pulled us around for a while and my son was in for a big fight. After going round and round with the river monster we finally got the rope around her and pulled her in the boat. 7ft with 35.5inch girth. True monster. My son was very excited now that he got one bigger than Jeremy Wade . We later caught a 37incher and to close out our day he hooked into another monster and it came in at 6.5ft. I was more than happy with Chris and his guide service. He really does know where the monsters live and put us on them all day. We had several others take bait and run, but after a lot of line and time, they just didn't eat it, just spit it out with the hook set. Again, I highly recommend Gar Fishing Addiction if you are in the market to catch some true monsters.
