There's two sides to my family property split by the main road in. The north is pine forest and the south a creek bottom with oaks and heavy cover. Does usually travel from the creek to the pine forest for bedding. We cut some new roads over the summer and hung a set in the pine forest along the trail they travel between the two sides. Friday evening a couple does came out of the pines running indicating, perhaps, a little rutting activity. I returned the next evening hoping the buck chasing them would show up. And he did. He walked a line of cedars to a spot about 33 yards to my left. I stopped him, drew, and the arrow was my truest ever. He ran about 50-70 yards and took his final breath beneath our power line.
Not the biggest deer in the woods but I consider my first bow buck in the heart of east Texas on land bought and built by my great grandfather one of my highest achievements. Probably just a 4 year old. Estimate his weight at around 165 - 175 lbs.
Before I conclude, a little reminder that the control of economic life is the control of the wealth of life itself. Should the control of economic activity ever be left in the hands of the state our individual freedoms cease to exist.
