Occasional charcoal topically in this use has no likely increase with the amount of exposure. In the studies elements produced by the combustion of fire burning stoves produce known carcinogens with extreme chronic exposure to lab animals which is correlated with carbon/charcoal but not to carbon itself. Using charcoal/carbon topically in occasional topical amounts does not have any evidence based increased risk.
