We were there last week. Didn't have any luck catching trout but had fun trying. The spillway is a popular spot get there early. Also the deep holes near the parking areas on beavers bend road behind the dam. And if you have waders the power plant next to the bridge. Don't forget to pay for parking. Good luck!

Beautiful country and great fly fishing venue. Spots mentioned above were all good At Thanksgiving. Have a good trip.

Bit more is an understatement, Still go about 5 times a year. We just get cabins a little further out.

We took the 4 wheeler and road the trails in the national forest. That was really fun. You can rent them if you wish.
Don't forget Shuck Me for eats!

Get a park map. There is a small fishing shop inside the park and another at the turnoff into the park.

The State Park Dam by Acorn Circle Camp area is cool to see. Against the rules, but we once waded out to the trout ladder. From jp there you could see huge trout in the crystal clear water.

If warm enough, the swiming area by the mini-golf place is nice.

I've done a lot of geocaching there. Gets you moving around and off into the woods somewhat.

If you like hiking, there are a number of short trails. We always like the Cedar Bluff trail. It has a great overlook at the top. There are a number of short walk trails. Just get a map at the ranger station.

The canoe/kyack rental inside the park is fun. if the water is not crazy fast, you can paddle along slow and spend 2-hours on the water. There are other rental places outside the park, but be sure the water is up and flowing good if you use them as when water is low the canoing is bad (lots of low water spots).

We've rented a pontoon boat at Beavers Bend Marina. Pricey but fun to do. Once we found an older couple with their grandkid, split the cost, and had a blast!

For food, we enjoy several spots. The restaraunt in the Park is nice. Sit on the deck out back, burger and fries, and feed the squirrels. They love fries. Grateful Head pizza in Hochatown is awesom. The place can pack out so get a reservation ahead of time, or do takeout.

Much more touristy than even 10-years ago. I understand a casino is to be built soon. That'll ruin it.

We went there last summer with a group of friends for the 4th. Didn’t go out to eat much. Took the boat up from Houston and put in at the ramp off of Carson Creek road and fished those long fingers to the south of that ramp and caught a bunch of bass but no luck on anything else.
