La Fogata used to be our go to but last couple of meals there over the last year were poor and the service lacking, disappointed cause we’d been going there for years.

Gotta try taco bell and whataburger

I like the lingua mexicana at Palenque Grill and taco palenque any day of the week.
Burgers, whataburger still.

Drive to the side of town that you see stray pups in the street. Open the door of any restaurant. The one that smells like fabuloso. That one will be the best. Even better if your feet stick to the floor a little. The fancy ones mentioned above are 70% eye appeal. 20% good 10% fake 100% gringo owned.

Last but not least. The restaurants I mentioned do not have a website. Just great food!! Enjoy!!

It’s been a few years ago, but Ray’s Drive was good. Not fancy, fairly cheap.

Nichas on Roosevelt not too far from downtown.

Locals eat here and I do as well.....Not expensive as the tourist traps downtown always are.
It's across from Mission San Jose and the old outdoor drive in movie, so not hard to locate.
