A machine gun for each would be nice. Even if they don’t shoot them from an investment standpoint they have been awesome.

Pump shotgun. Mossberg 500,Remington 870 or Benelli Supernova. I'll add an H&R single shot .410 in there as well.

Ruger 10/22 or Marlin model 60.

        1911 .45, Beretta model 92 or Glock.

Ruger Mk2 or Browning Buckmark .22 pistol.

        Ruger M77 or Hawkeye,Remington 700 or Winchester model 70.

A good AR or AK-47 or two. All of these guns will go and go. Which is what I look for in a gun. As long as you take decent care of them they'll still be working long after we're all gone.

I would like to find a Savage pump 410 with vent rib. I had 1 as a kid and traded it for a 12 guage.

I have a Remington Model 12 in 22 rem special with an octagon barrel that was my grandfathers. Does anyone else have one of these?

A collection for each grandkid is quite the endeavor, love it!!

For collections I love wood/blued guns-- take some upkeep and effort for maintenance and look great anywhere you have them!

            A collection should have:

-Bolt Action 22 (77/22 or something nice wood/blued)
            -Semi-Auto 22 (10/22 of any flavor)
            -Small bore O/U 28/.410
-Semi-Auto 20ga (wood/blued)- good for skeet, dove, etc
-Duck Gun- black or camo 12ga, 3.5"

            Centerfire Rifles--
-Ruger No1 in a smaller bore cartridge
-A good wood/blued bolt gun of sporter variety in a cartridge that will forever be available-- older Ruger 77, Pre-64 M70, etc
-Precision bolt gun-- lots to learn on a range about ballistics and wind when you are lobbing 308 @ 800 yards- an old classic VS, VSSF, LTR or Police would be cool

            Pistols
            -small .22 of some variety
            -a good daily carry 9mm
            -a classic 1911
-a big bore revolver 'BBQ' gun

I think this list could go on forever with 'one off's if you get into ARs and other types of centerfire rifles that would be cool to have but not necessarily a requirement of a collection!

                      Six of them.

Ages 5,4,4,3,2 & 8mo. People ask me who I love the most and I tell them "my son-in-laws". I don't want them girls coming back home with all those dang kids.

A BAR and/or an Auto 5 to teach them the brilliance and historical significance of one John Moses Browning.

Every collection should have a nice side x side in it. Maybe you could get one for each grand kid like this Merkle, a great buy at about $16,000.

                            .22 long rifle
                            20g pump shotgun & o/u
                            12g semiauto & o/u
                            5.56 AR
                            270
                            30-06
                            45 1911
                            9mm semi auto
                            357 revolver
                            great gun cleaning kit
                            ammo for each caliber
                            sand bag bench rests
                            noise cancelling ear protection

I would say brand agnostic but stick with reputable stuff. For me I know where I would lean to get them affordable quality. This would also mimic the type of collection I would keep for myself.
I also like a BBL 223 or 22-250 for plinking and maybe a fancy saddle rifle like an old pre64 in 30cal
