I would think it depends on what he's going to do with it. Is is for personal carry, hunting or home protection. Buy the right tool for the job! I have one for every situation.

        I would find a minty 50yr old sidearm...probly a S&W or Colt revolver.

Sig P220 Elite Hunter in 10mm

Too heavy for concealed but a lot of power for sidearm in the field. 10mm power for hogs and other not so friendly critters. 1911 look as well and it's a Sig, if one likes the brand which I do?

So many factors on this one. Is he an auto or revolver guy? Budget? If i was buying one for my best buds it would look something like this:
Friend 1: Ruger Vaquero case hardened
            Friend 2: Ed Brown 1911
Friend 3: Something tactical and high capacity

Myself would be a CZ DWX or Shadow 2

Someone above mentioned a kimber DASA 3 inch, just bought one and love it.

You got your work cut out for you, let us know what you decide.

Manufactured in 1971 which I assume is his birth year.

Depending on budget: 1911 or maybe a new colt python?

How do you stay friends when they go in and buy a 6.5

See you didn't need a pistol, were already packing heat
