So I did a thing this morning... There was blood!

I watched this buck grow all summer and made him my #1 target for this year... I saw him Thanksgiving morning around 50 yards chasing a doe and had to leave that day to go home (work the next day) while Shane and our oldest stayed for the weekend. He never showed back up until the evening after they left and had broken both brow tines. He was back on several cameras throughout the past week so since I had a 4 day weekend, I came out to the lease yesterday by myself to get in a couple extra hunts before Shane and the kiddos come this evening.

This morning started out kind of slow. Had a 3 year old small buck come in right away and he was injured but seemed to be doing okay so I didn’t mercy kill him. About 20 min later, a doe showed up and there was a line of bucks behind her. They ended up in the feeder and after a couple of minutes they all looked up, looked to my right and all of the younger bucks pest out the back to the pen. I knew right then something was coming. I peeled out the side and 10 yards to my right, there he was coming in. I opened the window where he was coming in at, and clipped my release on. He stepped in and grabbed a mouth full of sweet feed, quartering to me, at 8 yards! I was already at full draw waiting for him to turn when the doe decided she wanted no part of him and started to leave. I had my pin settled right on his heart just waiting for him to turn. He was watching the doe and I knew he was about to leave. I DO NOT like that shot and logically I didn’t want to take it. My brain screamed NOOOO about .5 seconds after I released my arrow. I watched my arrow only penetrate about 2/3 of the way and after he ran about 15-20 yards, come back out the side I shot him on. Well 19 inches is enough to get the heart and he didn’t even go 50 yards!
