    Scope or red dot

I have this Blackhawk in 44 mag. It shoots well with the scope. I have a small bushnell red dot just laying around. Was thinking of swapping it with the scope to cut some weight down. It would be used for deer and pig. What do yall think?

I've been shooting the Ruger Blackhawk .41 mag for over 30 years and have had both types of scopes. I have found it is easier for me to use the red dot. Quick acquisition of target and you do not have to be exactly straight behind the scope to see and shoot accurately. I can still shoot accurately "2 inches or less" out to 100 yards with a good rest.

      Definitely the red dot.

I guess I have the opposite opinion. I love red dots for speed, but FWIW I like a scope for deer hunting. I have a Leupold 2-7x on a 44 mag contender. You did mention weight, and lightweight, the red dot wins hands down.

Depends on the range you plan to shoot. 50 to 75 yards, a solid rest, the dot will do well.
